Backstory:

A few years ago I registered for this auction company’s mailing list. At the time I was hoping to find a good deal on a retired municipal vehicle.

This came in the mail today. Who wants to go with me and buy a motherfuckin’ fire truck?

Also was looking at beater trucks because I’m tired of having stinky trash in Meepster.

The last time I went to one of these in Charlotte was 2011. They sold a 97 Cavalier with 120k miles for $3200. US dollars. A non running 94 Ranger went for 2600. It was stupid.

Hell it’s only 5.5¢ in Charlotte. Aluminum, however, is worthwhile. Our scrap metal guy doesn't even pick up the sunroofs we cut out anymore. If I would tow that truck to a crusher I may get $150 out of it.

Honestly, you should pick up a P71. RWD, V8, (usually) LSD, tons of room for the kids and all their stuff. It would make an awesome beater.

Honestly this really isn’t a bad train of thought. I hadn’t even considered county equipment/auctions before your post but there really ought to be some sort of consideration to other government(ish) entities. I'm going to dig around a bit.

Depends on the auction, usually if they’ve put it in the running order, it has to be bought there.

I’m sure that things which haven’t been listed yet are probably available to buy as school faculty. I’d check with the entities which are selling the trailers and go from there.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. We don’t have the cash on hand to get anything yet but our trailer is falling apart and we’re losing the only driver with a truck tough enough to pull it. We have 2 years until we need a replacement so maybe we can get the county to put something on reserve before they’re even scheduled to get rid of it.
